Running through the heart of Munich is the Isar River, host to the German Museum located on one of its islands, the Museumsinsel. The German Museum (Deutsches Museum) has the world's largest number of science and technology exhibits, over 28,000 in number. At least 1.5 million visitors pour through its doors each year to see exhibits in 22 categories ranging from agriculture, arts, vintage cars, aircraft, rail, shipping, astronomy, communication, and so much more. All collections include demonstrations by knowledgeable and friendly guides. Set aside a whole afternoon to really see and appreciate these collections.
- Tour the impressive range of exhibitions at the German Museum where amongst the diverse collections you will surely be fascinated by the Nano-technology and Bio-technology exhibits.
- Visit the nearby Munich Bavarian National Museum to the north, founded in 1855 and view the art, music, and archaeological artefacts showcasing the development of Bavarian history.
- Catch a Munich tram to Marienplatz which is only a short distance from the museum to relax and sample coffee and German pastries at one of the cafes and enjoy (or critique) amateur street performers.
Munich has a busy international airport, good train and bus services from major European cities, and an excellent Autobahn road network connecting with other cities in Germany and Austria. The public transport system in Munich is comprehensive and there are several services to the German Museum, including train, subway, buses, and tram routes to nearby stops. Car parking is available within walking distance of the museum, but spaces might not meet patron demand. Look for park and ride stops to make your life easier, or you can make sure you travel during non-peak hours to get a spot.
