English Garden hotels
Spanning just under four square kilometres, Englischer Garten in Munich is considered one of the largest public city parks in the world, and it boasts a larger surface area than New York's renowned Central Park. The name “English Garden” actually describes its landscaping style, which was in vogue in 18th and 19th century England. The park is still one of the most beloved in Bavaria, and its size allows visitors to enjoy a number of beautiful sights and events. Children still love the century-old carousel, and summer visitors enjoy concerts and open-air theatre at the park's north-side amphitheatre.
- Partake in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the elegant Japanisches Teehaus and garden, which was built in 1972 as a gift to Munich from the head of the Kyoto tea school, Soshito Sen.
- Enjoy a pint at one of the biggest beer gardens in Munich next to the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower), a treasured English Garden landmark.
- Ride a pedal-boat around Kleinhesseloher See, and admire the lovely lake house and the picturesque King's, Elector's, and Regent's Islands.
The Munich International Airport is 36 kilometres from the English Garden using the A9 or B11 motorways. One can also use the S-Bahn suburban train or the airport bus, which are both inexpensive transport options. The main train station, Hauptbahnhof, is located in the city centre very close to the S-Bahn station and is connected to the bus and U-Bahn (underground) networks. The autobahn network connects Munich to all other major German cities via the A99 ring, but drivers may find parking a challenge. There are taxis available, and the city has more than 200 kilometres of bike trails.
