Berg am Laim
Berg am Laim is a borough of Munich located in the southeast region of the city across the river from Downtown. The name itself in part derives from describing its location: “on the ridge”. It was largely a blue collar brick-making realm of Munich during the Industrial Revolution due to the frequency of clay deposits found in the ground. Today, the area is pretty quiet, with a lot of green space and tree-lined roads. Parks such as the Echardinger Green Strip and the presence of beer gardens ensure the contentment of people of all ages. The area is also blessed with historical monuments like the Catholic Church of St. Stephen with its impressive spire that rises high above the flatland.
- Visit the eighteenth century Rococo style St. Michael in Berg am Laim in Munich and admire the church’s imposing exterior as well as the frescoed interior.
- Take a trip to Michaelianger, the biggest public park located in this part of Munich that has nice lawns, a playground, a basketball court and even a sledding hill created for loveable winter fiascos.
- Admire the Tommanweg 3, a lovely villa and a historical monument built in the German Renaissance style and sporting a distinctive teal onion dome.
