Mannheim has a small airport that offers limited flights to and from Hamburg, Berlin and Saarbrücken, but you will likely land at the Frankfurt Airport if you are travelling by air. You can take the 30-minute ICE rail shuttle from the airport to Mannheim for only €25 or the airport shuttle bus for €35. Alternatively, you can use high-speed rails to travel to Mannheimfrom any major city in Germany, as this town is a regional hub for several carriers. There are international bus lines that travel from many parts of Europe to Mannheim as well. Once you arrive, you will be able to get around quite easily using the local streetcar system that connectsMannheim to other cities across the Rhine and Neckar rivers.

Stuttgart aside, Mannheim is the most important city in Baden-Württemberg. The state in southwest Germany, east of the Upper Rhine, is one of the most beautiful in the country, from the famous Black Forest to the source of the Danube river. Though Mannheim has less than 350,000 people, the metro area of the city sports well over 2 million inhabitants. As such, Mannheim has a dynamic cityscape with many superb points of interest.
From the Wasserturm water tower, the de facto symbol of Mannheim, to the grand baroque Mannheim Palace, home of the University of Mannheim, the city offers a slew of fine attractions to explore. Luisenpark consistently wins raves as one of the most scenic parks in all of Europe. The over 40 hectare space features a Chinese garden, leisure meadow, greenhouse and lake. Finally, both the Kunsthalle art gallery and Reiss-Engelhorn Museum are worth a visit in Mannheim.
