Planten un Blomen
Planten un Blomen (colloquial German for ‘plants and flowers’) is a huge 470,000 square metre park located in the heart of Hamburg. Its’ humble origins date back to 1821, when botanist Johann Georg Christian Lehmann planted a Sycamore (‘Platanus’) tree, the park’s first. Surprisingly, this tree can still be seen near one of the park’s entry points. In 1935, a botanical garden, resembling the existing one, was added to the park. Today, Planten un Blomen is also a major recreational hotspot for visitors. It features a challenging miniature golf course, exciting pony rides, secluded hiking trails, and a lot more.
- Watch the ‘Wasserlichtkonzerte’ show, a summer night spectacular at Hamburg’s Planten un Blomen which features an illuminated fountain swaying synchronically to organ music.
- Go roller-skating at one of the planet’s largest outdoor rinks in Hamburg’s Planten un Blomen Park; all skill levels welcomed with a smile.
- Stroll around the beautiful, ornate Japanese Garden, Europe’s largest, and break for a cup of refreshing Japanese tea at the Tea House.
Planten un Blomen is accessible by all types of public transport because of its central location. It is just a 2 minute walk from Dammtor railway station, a bus station of similar name, and the Congress Centre Hamburg, all well connected by high-speed, Inter-City trains and buses. Other rail services that connect Dammtor station are S-Bahn (suburban) and U-Bahn (underground) trains. The park is also accessible from Fuhlsbüttel Airport by taxi or car (in 20 minutes), and by S-Bahn trains (in 25 minutes). By car, use the excellent motorways and ring roads, and follow the exit signs to the park.
