Fish market hotels
Visiting the Fish Market (Fischmarkt) in Hamburg is definitely an unforgettable cultural experience. Despite the fact that it's only open during early Sunday mornings, the area is still frequently packed with locals and tourists, because its festive atmosphere is unlike anywhere else in the city. Situated close to one of Europe's busiest harbours, this open-air market does not only offer the fresh catch of the day, but it also sells a wide variety of items such as fruits, flowers, and tea products. The market has been in business for decades, confirming its status as an important historical attraction in Hamburg.
- Visit Hamburg's historical fish auction hall; restored in 1982, and located just next to the Fish Market, it now houses numerous local cuisine eateries, and features live musical performances by notable rock and jazz bands during Sunday mornings.
- Experience the renowned nightlife scene at Reeperbahn, the most recognizable party and entertainment street in Hamburg, loaded with trendy bars, and booming night clubs.
- Dine in one of the many restaurants near the Fish Market like Fischereihafen Restaurant, which offer a la-carte menu and buffets featuring not only fish dishes but also other sumptuous delicacies.
The Hamburg Fish Market occupies the streets of Sankt Pauli Hafenstrasse and Grosse Elbstrasse, and is quite accessible via public transport. Visitors to the market can take any of the S-Bahn railway network lines going west, namely S1, S2, and S3; and get off at either the Reeperbahn station or the Landungsbruecken station. Alternatively, the U3 line of U-Bahn rapid transit system also serves the market area, with Landungsbrücken as the nearest station to the Fish Market. From these stations, you only need to walk a few minutes toward the direction of the Elbe River to reach the market.
