The Frankfurt Zoo first opened its doors in the mid 19th century, making it the second oldest zoo in all of Germany. The facility has gone to great lengths over the years to establish natural habitats for the more than six hundred species of animal that call it home. Found in the Innerstadt district of Frankfurt, the zoo’s exterior boasts a neo classical façade that welcomes visitors to its grounds. Here they will find a green oasis filled with exotic animals such as tigers, gorillas and lions that come from the furthest reaches of the world.
- Immerse yourself in the magical nocturnal world of Madagascar at the Grzimek House of the Frankfurt Zoo, as day becomes night to accommodate the mysterious creatures that scurry through the dark.
- Scare yourself at the Exotarium, the reptile house and aquarium of the Frankfurt Zoo, where creepy crocodiles and snakes fascinate visitors from behind glass.
- Encounter the hominid relatives of humans at the Borgori Forest ape house, a genuine jungle atmosphere made as natural as possible.
The Frankfurt Zoo is connected by Frankfurt’s integrated public transportation and can be reached easily from any point in the city. The underground, trams and buses all have stops at the Frankfurt Zoo, so visitors should not be bothered with driving a car. The zoo also features its own transportation, as a tram goes through the interior and drops visitors off at their desired attraction. Even though the zoo is open all year round, it can best be enjoyed in the summer months, when it is open later and people and animals are less likely to be affected by weather.
