Gallusviertel is a district of Frankfurt, known also by the name of Gallus, which translates to “Gallows,” in English. This area is joined to the Central Business District via the Mainzer Landstraße, a main avenue running parallel to the River Main where one can find plenty of lodging, shopping, and dining venues. The street Schaumainkai, just across the river, offers a number of wonderful museums to suit any taste, such as the Museum of Applied Arts, Museum of World Cultures, and the German Film Museum, just to name a few of the most popular venues.
- Admire modern and historical art at the Städel-Museum, named for Johann Friedrich Staedel, who had bequeathed his amazing collection to Frankfurt in 1815 so that future art lovers may enjoy the masterful works.
- Enjoy one of the largest collections of Natural History exhibits at Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt, one of the largest museums of its kind in the world featuring huge dinosaur displays, fossils, Egyptian mummies, and other fascinating artefacts.
- Cruise down the River Main or enjoy views of Gallusviertel and the city skyline via the river bridges.
The Frankfurt International Airport is only 13 kilometres from Gallusviertel on the B43 motorway and 16 via the B5. Airport transit options include the 61 bus and S-bahn commuter rail lines S8 and S9. Long distance trains arrive at the central rail station along with the S-Bahn trains, which connect to the U-Bahn subway network in the underground “City tunnel.” The public transit network can take you anywhere in the city via tram, metro train, bus, or taxi, and there are bike taxis for tourists. If you decide to drive, you may take advantage of the park and ride program.
