U Bahn Museum
The Berlin U Banh (underground subway network) has had a long and eventful life over the last 116 years. With initial construction in 1896, it has evolved through two World Wars, the division, and then reunification of Germany. The U Banh Museum displays working mechanisms, controls, equipment and curios from these eventful times and the evolution of subway rail technology over the years. If you’re a rail buff, the 300+ items there will be worth a couple of hours browsing. The U Banh Museum provides a unique visual and hands-on perspective on Berlin’s history.
- Hop the U Bahn to Olympia Stadium and wander around the old signal tower where the U Bahn Museum is housed, and operate old track and signalling gear and actual instrument panels from various rail models.
- Visit the nearby Olympic Stadium, scene of the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics, where black American athlete Jesse Owens annoyed the heck out of Hitler by winning 4 gold medals.
- Extend your understanding of the Berlin U Bahn with a guided, nighttime tour in an open roof rail carriage.
