In the beautiful city of Berlin lies the borough of Treptow in the southeastern section of the city. Having merged with Kopenick, it is now the largest borough in the city and yet has the least population. For this reason, it is a wonderful place to visit where you might not have to deal with hordes of people (or worse, other tourists) as you try to have a peaceful visit in Berlin. TreptowPark, along the Spree, is such a peaceful place you might forget about the rest of the city in time.
- Let the rolling cosmos open your mind as you visit Archenhold-Sternwarte, the observatory, and see both the stars and the planets.
- See the cleverly named Treptowers, including the giant human-like sculptures built on the Spree.
- Relax at Badeschiff, a warm sauna with a view of the river and an excellent bar—stay cozy and warm during the cold winter months.
Driving in Berlin is difficult at best, so it is better to rely on public transportation or taxi. Taxis are plentiful in the city with a stand by every hotel and nearly every corner. They operate on a meter system and are known for generally honest fares. The city has a cheap and efficient public transportation system with metro and buses that run throughout its hallowed streets. The S-Bahn is the overground train and the U-Bahn is underground, and both connect every major section of town like a giant web cast over the cityscape. To get to Treptow, take the S-bahn to Kopenick.
