Located in the northwest of Berlin, Reinickendorf is known for its quaint churches and houses. The history of the area dates back to the 13th century, but Reinickendorf didn’t see a significant increase in population until the 19th century, when direct rail access was established with Berlin. In the 1920’s the area saw rapid development and became known for its “White City,” which is a tract of modernist housing estates that are now a World Heritage site.
- Take a stroll around Lake Tegel, the second largest lake in Berlin, and see a bevy of wildlife without straying too far from the bustle of the city.
- Admire the quaint stone design of the Village Church, an idyllic church set against a backdrop of trees and green spaces that create a perfect sanctuary for deep thought.
- Visit the Tegel Palace, a beautiful Renaissance manor house that once belonged to the Humboldt family and now contains a small museum that tells the family’s history in Berlin.
Berlin boasts some of the best public transportation in the world and the Reinickendorf area is well connected to it. The S-bahn has two nearby stops, the Schonholz and Wilhelmsruh station, and the U-bahn has six stops spread throughout the area. Reinickendorf is one of the greenest areas of Berlin, featuring many parks, lakes, and a river. Getting around on foot is the best way to enjoy the lush scenery. The Berlin Tegel Airport is located in Reinickendorf and has direct transport to the cite centre of Berlin via train and bus.
