Neukoelln is a borough that lies in the south eastern part of Berlin. With a distinctively multi-ethnic character, it serves as a pilot city for the Intercultural cities program. The area is home to numerous Grunderzeit buildings, which are a major attraction of this area. The northern section of the borough is very urban and is a major destination for tourists visiting Berlin. From Gropius Passagen, the largest shopping mall of the city, to an opera house, as well as the famous Turkish market, this neighbourhood has it all. Visitors will love the variety of activities and sights in Neukoelln.
- Visit the Puppet Theatre Museum; with its wonderful puppet shows, interesting guided tours and workshops, this museum in Neukoelln is a must-visit place in Berlin for those interested in puppetry.
- Explore Schloss Britz; it has beautiful gardens, an Italian Renaissance building housing art pieces and furniture of the Grunderzeit era, and frequent exhibitions, all of which offer a glimpse into an older Berlin.
- Tour Hufeisensiedlung; this architectural marvel of the early 19th century is a horse-shoe shaped estate and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Getting to Neukoelln is quite convenient using the city’s public transportation system. The area is well connected to different parts of the city, making travelling quite comfortable. The subway lines U7 and U8 serve this area and offer the quickest link to the city centre. Additionally, the Circle line passing through the area links it with the western and eastern sections of the city. Getting here by taxi is another comfortable option for visitors in Berlin. Some of the taxi companies that offer services here are City Funk, Metrocab and Quality Taxi.
