Museum island hotels
One of the most famous attractions in Germany is Museum Island, which is a literal island between the Spree River and Kupfergraben waterway in Berlin. Museum Island is made up of five world-class museums: the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte National galerie, the Bode Museum, and the Pergamon Museum, who together offer a stunning and varied collection of fine art and artefacts from around the world, definitely enough to consume more than a day (or maybe two) of tourism. Museum Island exists to accommodate history and art lovers from around the world, so expect a classy arrangement of food and shopping choices in this area of historic Berlin.
- Purchase a museum pass to tour all of the museums on Museum Island as well as other attractions that are close to the island.
- Visit the Berliner Dom, one of Berlin’s biggest attractions, a cathedral built in the Baroque style.
- Dine at one of the best German restaurants near Museum Island like Borchardt, where high class Berliners often go, or the Hard Rock Café, if you’re into that.
Getting to Museum Island isn’t very difficult. Berlin traffic isn’t as heavy as in some cities, but you won’t pay parking costs if you use the public transit system. Buy a day pass, good for both the U-Bahn and S-Bahn for zones A and B, which covers the central portion of the city. At the Friedrichstraße Station, you can take the U6 train, which goes directly to Museum Island. If you aren’t on the U6 train route, there are other trains that provide transportation to the island, but not by a direct route. This area at night can be quite magical, so perhaps a walking tour of Berlin might end (or begin) at this location.
