Lichtenberg is a major residential suburb located east of Berlin, Germany. It is the eleventh of Berlin’s twelve boroughs, merging with the former borough of Hohenschönhausen in 2001 as part of its administrative reform. The area is a previous bailiwick for East Germany’s communist government, and is home to Berlin’s Lichtenberg Station. It is a historic place dating back as far as 1203, and is presently populated with pre-fabricated high-rise housing estates called Plattenbau, old villas, and colourful concrete slab apartments. Lichtenberg is a dynamic blend of the old and modern within a charming community.
