Nicknamed by locals as Ku'Damm, Kurfürstendamm is the main shopping district of Berlin. The area is comprised of 3.5 kilometres of tree-lined streets that are easily the liveliest streets with in the city. Kurfürstendamm is the starting site for many of Berlin’s city tours, and is the home of grand shopping malls, high-class automotive showrooms and expensive hotels. This famous avenue began as a riding trail in the 16th century, but has now grown into the Fleet Street of Berlin. All visitors really need to bring is a credit card, a pair of good walking shoes, and an adventurous spirit.
- The Cafe Kranzler was once a famous restaurant for locals opened in the 1800s, closed in the 1930s, and reopened in 2000 as a coffee house known for its large breakfast buffet options.
- Whether shopping for designer, upscale items or shopping on a budget, visitors find there is something for everyone in Kurfürstendamm, including a Porsche Design showroom.
- A museum known as "The Story of Berlin" tells over eight-hundred years of history and houses several artefacts from World War I, and a 1974 nuclear shelter that you can visit on a guided tour.
Kurfürstendamm is easily accessible thanks to a major transportation hub at the nearby Berlin Zoo railway station. If travelling from the Berlin Tegel Airport, located just 8 kilometres from the centre of Berlin, Kurfürstendamm is only a short twelve-minute shuttle ride away. If travelling by metro, it is only seven minutes from the Jakob-Kaiser Platz station. Nearly any road in West Berlin will take you to Kurfurstendamm, whether travelling from Breitscheidplatz or the Berlin Zoo stop, Wimersdorf or Charlottenburg. Just like Rome, all roads in West Berlin will lead you this historic and beautiful boulevard.
