Komische Oper hotels
Situated on Behrenstrasse near Berlin’s famous Unter den Linden boulevard, the Komische Oper is one of the premier opera companies in Germany. The ornate theatre was first designed by Ferdinand Feliner and Hermann Helmer in the late 19th century, but since then the structure has gone through many changes, including when it was partially destroyed by bombs during WWII. Even though the exterior has been renovated, the interior and its lovely auditorium have been kept intact, including the ceiling murals that overlook the stage and give the room the feel of an ancient Greek drama.
- Visit Museum Island, found just steps from Komische Oper, to see social and artistic history come to life in this Berlin heritage site.
- Marvel at the German neo-classical style of the Neue Wache building, which was designed by architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and is now one of the most important war memorials in this capital city.
- Look up in wonder at the domed architectural mastery of the St. Hedwig’s Cathedral, an 18th century Catholic Church modelled after the Pantheon in Rome.
Visitors who arrive by private or hired car should park at the Kultureparkplatz that is just a short walk from the Komische Oper. Parking is limited so guests are advised to arrive via the S-bahn, U-bahn, tram or bus, all of which have stops nearby. This short walk will allow you to see some of the many sights of Berlin along the way and not have to worry about driving. There are taxis available just outside of the doors, so those who don’t want to walk after the show can grab a taxi instead.
