Haus der Kulturen der Welt hotels
Haus der Kulturen der Welt
Located in Tiergarten Park in Berlin, Haus der Kulturen der Welt is Germany's best centre for contemporary non-European art. The Haus der Kulturen der Welt was designed by American architect Hugh Stubbins Jr. in 1957 and was presented to Germany as a gift from the United States. The diagonal arch of its swooping design gives the building the appearance of a pregnant oyster, the moniker given to it by the citizens of Berlin. The Haus der Kulturen der Welt is now home to numerous exhibitions of art, dance and theatre that celebrate the visual art and culture of Non-European countries.
- See the Large Divided Oval: Butterfly sculpture located in the circular basin outside the entrance to the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The heavy bronze piece was the last major work of English artist Henry Moore.
- Celebrate the potential and creativity of the many international artists living in Germany at the Labour Berlin exhibition.
- Enjoy the works of some of the best up-and-coming photographers in the world at A Blind Spot exhibition, where Berlin is depicted in photographs that celebrate the unseen.
The Haus der Kulturen der Welt is located near many stops of Berlin's public transportation, which is known worldwide for its efficiency. The S-Bahn stops at the Hauptbahnhof Main Station and the U-Bahn has a stop at the nearby Bundestag Station. Bus 100 also stops within walking distance of the Haus. Berlin is a city focused on environmental issues, so many people choose to ride bicycles to avoid traffic and make less of a carbon footprint. There is a Call a Bike station just in front of the entrance to the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
