Sarlat La Caneda hotels
Imagine a maze of honey-coloured buildings, narrow alleyways and bustling squares set in the picturesque Vézère Valley of France, providing an almost fairytale-like setting for many different great hotels in Sarlat. This ancient town is often called the Jewel of the Dordogne because of its wonderfully preserved medieval buildings. Built around a Benedictine abbey, this town has remained largely unchanged since the 14th century and has a wealth of buildings and monuments for visitors to discover, including St. Sacerdos Cathedral, the Fountain Courtyard, La Lantern des Morts and Le Jardin des Enfeus, among others. Most buildings in the largely car-free town centre are impeccably restored.
Sarlat isn’t just about historical buildings. Use your HotelClub travel benefits to book central accommodation in Sarlat to experience one of the towns many festivals that occur throughout the year. Start with the Truffle Festival in January and continue with the Art Festival that celebrates the work of locals each May or the annual Summer Exhibition for the work of a different famous artist every year. July and August brings the Theatre Games Festival, one of the oldest celebrations of its type in Europe.
Although Sarlat is not well-known outside of France, visitors flock to it in summer, making spring or fall better times to visit. As most Sarlat hotels are small, booking well in advance is advised. The town is tucked away in Périgord Noir region of the Dordogne, 350 miles south of Paris. High speed trains from Paris stop frequently, but most visitors fly into nearby Aéroport Brive Vallée de la Dordogne.
