Katajanokka, famed for its amazing Art Nouveau architecture, is worth visiting for those keen on orthodox architecture, good food, and enjoying amazing scenery not found elsewhere. Visitors will see scores of buildings of Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau architecture, in this area, as well as the amazing works of Alexy Gornostaev and Alvar Aalto. If you were to go towards the south of Katajanokka, you can enjoy lovely harbour views and watch cruise ships as they make their journey towards Helsinki.
- Relax and enjoy the overwhelming panoramic view from the top of Uspenski Cathedral, established in 1868 and located on a hill overlooking Helsinki.
- Sample tasty appetizers and other lovely dishes at the Katajanokka Casino whilst appreciating the lovely ocean view from the restaurant's terrace; this restaurant has been in business since 1913.
- Visit Enso-Gutzeit, or Enso Building, the headquarters of Finland's biggest paper plant and get a taste of one of Alvar Aalto's best works whilst in Helsinki.
The city centre of Helsinki is 20 kilometres away from Finland's top international airport. Taking a taxi to Katajanokka from the airport is the easiest, but most expensive option. Unless visitors are travelling with a large group, taking a tram, bus, or train into the city is the best choice. For example, visitors can take bus number 615 from the airport and reach the city centre within 35 minutes. From the city centre, take tram number 4T or 4 to reach the Katajanokka Terminal. Many major attractions are located just a short walk from the terminal.
