Eira - Kaivopuisto - Ullanlinna hotels
Ullanlinna is a posh neighbourhood in the south part of Helsinki. It was named for a fortification that was once in the area, which in turn was named for the Swedish queen Ulrika Eleanora, The arty, design-oriented neighbourhood features graceful patrician buildings constructed in the Art Nouveau Jugend style. There are quite a few galleries, design shops, and museums in Ullanlinna, and the small shops and cafes in the area are pleasant venues to pass the time. Spectacular sea views and green spaces make for a good backdrop for picnics on sunny days alongside the locals.
- Spend a nice sunny day in Tähtitorninpuisto, a park which features a historic neoclassical observatory and a hill that offers excellent views of the sea and Helsinki Cathedral.
- Check out the Design Museum in Ullanlinna to see great examples of Finnish design through the centuries and international design in its permanent and rotating exhibitions.
- Wander about the Museum of Finnish Architecture, located in a Helsinki building constructed in 1899, to see the drawings and scale models of famous Finnish buildings.
Ullanlinna is reachable by walking or the tram from Helsinki’s city centre. Tram lines 1A, 3B, and 3T serve the area, with stops at Eiran Sairaala, Kapteeninkatu, Neitsytpolku, and Kaivopuisto. Travellers can also take tram line 10 to Tarkk'ampujankatu and walk to Ullanlinna attractions. The neighbourhood is about an half hour’s drive from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. At the airport, visitors can hire a car, take a taxi, or use public transport options to reach Ullanlinna. The city has a metro and bus system in addition to the tram and is highly pedestrian friendly.
