Great choice

It seemed to us that every room had a sea view, which is a real plus. Very nice lagoon for snorkelling and kayaking. Some 'adults only' spaces making this good for a multi-generational holiday. It was clean and well kept. We checked out several other resorts for next time and concluded ours was more relaxing than the Denerau ones. The only downside was that the resort has you almost captive for food - unless you walk to Tomlu's in the nearby village or take a lengthy drive. The TV coverage was a little average - but who needs it? We have to stay in touch with our businesses while on holiday so are very WIFI dependent. The resort WIFI was a little slow, but adequate - especially if you're up before the whole complex wakes and logs in.

Relaxing Holiday for an older couple

Check in at reception was great, our requests for a unit without stairs and near to amenities were well looked after. Room 914 suited our needs very well. Excellent cleaning girls and little things such as lights not working and missing towels were remedied very promptly. Good breakfasts and very good happy staff. Do think Happy Hours at the bar were not very happy at all - .50c off the price of a drink is not much! Great to have adults only restaurant and pool as lots of families with very young children staying at the time we were there (almost like Club Med & they had lots of organised activities for the children which was obviously why it was such a popular destination ) but catered well for people wanting some some quiet time.

Worst Fiji experience ever

The room especially the bathroom was filthy. Half of the resort restaurants were closed as was one of the pools. We did not find this out until after check in and it was not disclosed at time of booking. The hotel its rooms, the rest and overall is very tired in need of a major renovation.

They have the big picture sorted but need to improve the details.

The room we had was one of the furthest rooms away. We paid extra for an ocean view room and regretted this decision. Although the view was lovely we were a 20 minute walk from the main swimming, kayaking and bar area. The room itself was lovely but the mattress was the worst I have ever had. Including ones we have used in much cheaper accommodation. The mattress had two body shaped valleys where the spring had totally gone and a hill in the middle. We woke in pain the next day. It took over 6 phone calls to get anything done. We finally had the mattress replaced. The new one also had distinct body impressions but had enough springs to sleep reasonably. The linen was lovely and the toiletries fantastic. The resort advertises wifi but wifi is only available in some public areas. Our nearest bar had wifi available sometimes within 3 metres of the router if you have an apple device. Even the lobby had patchy wifi. The Bilo bar was the only place with good wifi. Yet it was a 20 minute walk. The massage I had was very ordinary for an extraordinary price. Food. Breakfast was free and fantastic. Pizza was ok. the Lagoon buffet for dinner was nice but a room full of screaming children really ruined the mood. The pan asian food in the Takali restaurant was lovely and the atmosphere great. The polynesian night was great and worth every cent. It was a highlight of our trip. The snorkelling trip was fantastic but I feel they should have discussed it and let people know it was a drift snorkel with a strong current. They didn't even ask if our kids could swim. Everyone else besides our family and one other person did not complete the snorkel and went back to the boat. The transfers organised by the hotel were on time, clean and only $135 each way. Much cheaper then we were quoted at local travel agents. A lovely touch was a mini breakfast spread for early leavers on the last day. I couldn't recommend anyone going and staying in our room . The walk was so long you couldn't just duck back to your room. This is something I require at a resort. If you had a central room, don't mind no support in a mattress or get a new one, don't need wifi, didn't get my massage lady and love screaming kids this may be the resort for you.

We enjoyed our holiday overall,

We enjoyed our holiday overall, yet this isn't a fantastic resort. The adults only pool was great for us and the fine dining restaurant was enjoyable. For families, the attraction of children's activities must be a draw-car. We also enjoyed leisurely breakfasts overlooking the water each day. Whilst a great location, the resort would more correctly be classified as 4 star. Be aware the meals at the restaurants are not cheap and the international buffet at the lagoon terrace restaurant is fairly ordinary, yet comes at $80FJD each. Our room was ok, however there was a flood in recent times and there is still a problem with dampness. Hence, depending on where you are this could be a problem. On balance, we would not return again and have enjoyed far more other true 5 star places.

This is an amazing hotel if you

This is an amazing hotel if you have young kids. My two girls (Miss3 & Miss4) had 6 days of action-packed fun from the moment they awoke to the moment they collapsed. Pools, beaches, kayaks, coconut hunts, fire dancing, kids club and just making lots of other little friends. For mum and dad, there was plenty of relaxing activities too - massage, golf, cocktails by the pool. A lovely location, with lovely people, in an amazing country. We'll definitely be back - Bula Vinaka!

We had a fantastic time at this

We had a fantastic time at this resort. Let me say from the outset that part of the reason it was so good was that we got a free upgrade to an Ocean Bure. It was the best. As most people say, the Fijian people make Fiji great. This is true of this resort as well. We caught a cab from the airport. It was F$90, cheap and well worth it as we didn't have to wait for other people on a hotel coach. This resort is Western style, so don't expect a piece of Fiji. If you are interested, visit the nearby towns while at the hotel. The food is very Western and somewhat unexciting, but not bad. However breakfast is brilliant. Diving at the reefs off the hotel is pretty average (though I have been to some great diving destinations) but convenient. There is no soft coral in this part of Fiji and the sea life was standard and not that abundant. Would I go back? I would have to say that I would definitely stay at this resort again, but I would have to stay in the Ocean Bure.

Having recently stayedd at the

Having recently stayedd at the Shangri La Fijian resort, I feel that the hotel does not live up to the level that you would expect from the Shangri La name or its 4.5 star rating. It is very much a kid orientated hotel and feels a bit crowded and not as relaxing as I have experienced at other hotels on the coral coast. If you are travelling without kids then I would recommend looking at alternatives. Is it bad...No, good....No and would I stay there again...more than likely no.
