Birthday Treat.

The Outrigger is a beautiful hotel with lots of greenery and a sandy beach. As we travelled without children, it was nice to have the choice of an Adults only pool with swim-up bar, and a night club with live band every night which had half price cocktails from 9pm to 10pm. The traditional Bures had butler service with champagne & canapés served every day at 5pm as well as a night cap with petit fours at 7pm which really makes you feel Special. All the staff appear very happy and are always smiling or singing....or both !! The food is excellent and entertainment 1st class. The Fijian warrior dancers are great to see in action. There are several restaurants to choose from in the resort, our favourite was the Beachcomber which has excellent steaks & pizzas. There are also restaurants close by at Bedarra Inn, Ko ko's and the Beach Bar & Grill, just a few hundred yards along the beach on the coast road. Tours include Robinson Crusoe full day which is great, or a Helicoptor Tour of the Islands & waterfalls which is spectacular .We also visited a Pottery Village to see how the local people live, and a Hill Fort which is steeped in history and has the most amazing views of the Sigatoga river. The Outrigger is about an hour's drive from the airport but has a lot more character than other similar five star properties on Denerau Island ,closer to the airport. It is worth the extra travelling time in my opinion, and the lovely Fijian staff at Outrigger will spoil you rotten and make your holiday one to remember X

Our recent stay

spent 10 days at The Outrigger. Great resort for families and couples. Room was great and bed was fantastic. The only negative on this resort would be that it's a little expensive and wasn't aware would put a $1000 hold on visa card, this I thought was a bit excessive and then have to wait 7 days after departure for this hold to drop off. This was my only complaint but would definitely consider revisiting this resort

Unfortunately did not meet expectations

Negatives - Reception staff were unhelpful with our request for a late checkout, expensive wifi with many dropouts, room phone not working for 4 days out of 7 even after multiple requests to have it fixed, compared with The Hilton nanny service the Outrigger was a lot more expensive and more conditions applied. Positives - Most staff genuine and lovely with kids, great adult pool and menu, Sundowner Grill fantastic experience especially on our last night when staff sang us the Fijian farewell song.

Wedding in Fiji

The resort is very well maintained although March is not a good month as it is too hot. Dissappointing that the resort charged 3% on credit cards - all credit cards.

Fantastic place to relax

Loved the outrigger. It has everything you need and there is no need to leave the resort if you don't want to. It is more of a family resort but there is an adult pool (with a bar in the pool) for those who want to relax without being splashed by kids. The food is a bit pricey but its decent quality and the cocktails/mocktails are amazing. The beach doesn't have white soft sand as there is a fair amount of coral on the beach, but the snorkeling is pretty decent. Free use of kayaks and snorkeling gear with the option of hiring diving equipment means that there is plenty to do for those who enjoy the sea.

Good if you want resort with a brandname rather than soul

i picked this after Shangri la is sold out. Its one of those impersonal international resorts, filled with old Australians & Kiwis; parents with kids. Coral coast looks good on brochure but it isnt a good location to enjoy sun and sand. Go to the islands if you want an authentic Fiji holiday experience. But if you are only after luxury and comfort, this is the place. Taxi back to Nadi is outragouesly expensive. Fiji dollar 150!

Beautiful, hotel, beautiful people

The hotel far exceeded my expectations . The grounds are beautiful, and the staff more than make up for anything that s not up to par. We stayed in room 701 which was at the end of the hall , far from reception but once you know the shortcut to the pool and restaurants it was great. Lots of towels, confortable room. excellent water pressure! No mosquitoes either. Great to be able to sleep with the patio door open and hear the waves. The main pool is great and it is nice to have a quiiet one for adults. While we were there it was quite chilly and windy and the hotel did their best to keep everyone entertained. The shows at the main restaurant are good entertainment. The buffet has relatively good choices but I think that aft 7 days one would get bored. The beach restaurant is great. I found the drinks to be on tEh expensive side. My one disappointment about the hotel is the beach but that's my thing as I'm used to sandy Caribbean beaches . This is why i did not rate the hotel 5 star but the price reflects that Also, it is a bit far from Port Denarau where the better day trips leave. It is a great hotel for families with young children . The nannies seem very good and the kids looked like they were having a good time. I was traveling with my 20 year old daughter and she enjoyed herself too. We tried the spa ; it was ok. I found it expensive compared to north American standards. Overall it was an excellent stay and this due to the staff at the resort who go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Vinaka!

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

Do a few day trips to see the island. We took a day trip on the Schhone Whale's Tale. Definitely worth it if you like being on a sail boat. The private beach is very nice. Food was good , drinks plentiful. The staff was very professional and everyone had a great time. We also did the Robinson Cruseau but aside from an interesting boat ride on the river, I would not recommend this one even though it is closer to the hotel and cheaper.

2nd Time Stay & Still Faboulous

This is my 2nd time at this resort, although my first time experience as a couple. 4 years on and this place is still top notch condition. The room as per my previous stay, was great and we received a free upgrade to Level 1 with butler evening service with complimentary drinks & tapas! (probably wasn't as busy). This place is not as big or glamorous as the 5-start resorts at Port Denarau. It is very family orientated, but can still offer great dining & drinking experience. On our first night there we Asian buffet for $68FJD pp. the food was great. every night there is a different themed cuisine. There are 4 restaurants in total. we only dined at 2 of them, as the other 2 were high priced. The beach was very quiet, hardly anyone around 'using' the beach - probably due to it low tide nature which makes it difficult to swim or snorkel - it's not known as a beach resort so don't be suprised. They are building a 2nd pool, hopefully this one is bigger which could be more suited for adults. There are also a few shops inside the resort which is handy for last minute gifts. As mostt 5-start resorts, you pay more for meals, drinks and activities/massages. Pick up a good deal where possible and you won't be dissapointed.

Excellent Family holiday spot

We had a fantastic time. Have stayed at Radisson Denaru before our 1.5 year old arrived, and while it was lovely, the Outrigger is much better when you have little ones. The staff were so friendly, they remembered our daughters name and called out to her every time they saw her. It was just such a lovely place with a happy vibe. And the little touches, such as the farewell song they sing to you at breakfast on your last day... really nice. We were in a Plantation Bure, next time will upgrade to the Beachfront as they looked even better..!! The location was fine, we got a taxi from the airport as much cheaper than pre-booking anything. The Sundowner restaurant was great for dinner, Poolside restaurant for lunch, and then buffet breakfast. And out bubba ate for free which was great also. Can highly recommend staying here. Thanks to all the staff at the Outrigger for such a nice stay.

Excellent place to stay

Stayed 6 days at the outrigger and 2 nights at another 5 star resort. The other resort didn't come close to outrigger. We had 2 kids with us (12yr olds) who had a ball at outrigger. Other resort was not fun for them. Only thing I can say is the beach at the other place is a bit better. The staff at outrigger run rings around the other place. At the outrigger they learn your name the first day and they call you it every day. I know it's part of the set up of the place but that is what makes it special, that they take the time to incorporate that into their training. The other place you don't get even a smile off most of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble at the rigger for any staff. All in all I would come back to the outrigger in a flash. Coudos to all staff and management at the rigger cause you all contribute to make it the excellent and fun and friendly place it is.
