Tivoli Gardens of Copenhagen, Denmark is one of the oldest amusement parks and pleasure gardens in the entire world. Tivoli, which opened in 1843, gets more than four and half million visitors each year, which puts it second behind Disneyland Paris as the most visited park in Europe. Tivoli is in a constant state of evolution but never loses the quaint charm that makes it one of the most cherished places in Copenhagen. It attracts both children and adults alike with a mix of rides, band stands cafes and flower gardens. Even arson from Nazi sympathisers could not keep Tivoli down, as the park was quickly repaired, rebuilt and up and running in mere weeks. The park gets its name from Tivoli Gardens in Paris.
- Ride the massive wooden roller coast, the Rutschebanen, which has been in continuous operation in Tivoli since it was first moved from Sweden to Copenhagen in 1915.
- Enjoy the thrill of a zero-G roll and Immelmann loop on The Demon, which is the fastest roller coaster at Tivoli.
- Ride the Star Flyer, which is the largest carousel in the world at eighty meters high and offers some of the greatest panoramic views of the city of Copenhagen.
Tivoli, located in the heart of Copenhagen, is a major national attraction so there are numerous ways to get there using public transportation. Guests at Tivoli can actually get discounts on transport to the park through the joint efforts of several travel companies. From Copenhagen hotels, there are buses and trains that stop near the gates to Tivoli and can be reached from just about anywhere in Copenhagen. There is also an electric bus the “City Cirkel” which stops directly in front of the gates for people who would like a green way to get to the park. Bike riding is a national pastime in Copenhagen, so for those who are staying in close proximity to Tivoli might consider bike riding.
