National Theatre hotels
The iconic National Theatre in Prague’s New Town has long been the city’s epicentre of opera, as well as a national monument to Czech history and art. The National Theatre is aptly named, as it was built by money collected from the people, making it an important symbol of Czech independence and pride since it first opened in 1881. The main hall is lavishly decorated and flanked by three tiers of balconies that make a dramatic setting for shows. Now the historic building is home to some of the best operas, ballets and dramatic performances in the world.
- Catch a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the National Theatre in Prague to see some of the Czech Republic’s finest actors and singers perform this beloved opera.
- See the dramatic fall of an American corporation at a production of Enron, a modern drama based on the collapse of the Texas giant.
- Book a tour of the National Theatre in Prague to see the backstage area where opera singers and dramatic actors warm up their chops before a show.
The National Theatre is the centrepiece of Prague’s New Town and can be reached in a number of ways. There is a metro stop within a short walk at the Narodni Trida station and the tram has routes that end at the nearby Narodni Divadlo stop. The city’s winding cobbled streets beg to be explored on foot, and New Town, where the National Theatre is located, has an assortment of historical buildings and sights that will be best enjoyed up close. The streets are safe and strolling through the ancient maze is one of the real treats of Prague.
