Museum of Decorative Arts
Housed in a building as beautiful as the art inside, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague displays masterful crafts. Many of the pieces are in a Bohemian style and were created by national and international artists. Focusing on applied arts of superior quality, function, and beauty, the Museum of Decorative Arts explores the evolution of style. Much of the collection is still present after being hidden outside Prague when the building was taken for war use in the 1940s and later when the building was renovated. Now, visitors can enjoy all the exhibits freely.
- Search the walls of the Museum of Decorative Arts building to find built-in examples of art techniques including weaving, metal work, jewellery making, embroidery, wood carving, printing, masonry, and glass making; emblems of Prague and other Czech towns also appear.
- View the “Stories of Materials” exhibit to learn about the history and development of decorative arts in the mediums of fibre, print, ceramics, metals, and timepieces.
- Explore the wealth of knowledge held within the 172,000-volume arts library inside the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
