Mala Strana hotels
Malá Strana, which was constructed during King Premysl Otakar’s rule in 1257 AD, is one of the most historic districts of Prague, Czech Republic, and lies on the west bank of River Vltava. During the middle ages, this world-renowned holiday destination was home to several royal palaces, contrasting sharply with the more bourgeois and bohemian outlook of towns spread across the river’s opposite bank. Baroque-style architecture is a conspicuous feature of many of the district’s historic structures, including medieval churches and palaces that enrich the area’s landscape. It’s Malá Strana’s old-world charm, combined with its vibrant modern attractions, which draw thousands of visitors to this destination year after year.
- Explore the 17th century Baroque Wallenstein Palace, with its exquisite frescoes, murals, paintings, and stucco work, as well as the equally exquisite Main Hall, Knights Hall, and Audience Hall.
- Hike up the Petrin hill, or ride the funicular car or elevator to the 60-metre-high Petrin Tower, and enjoy panoramic views of the city’s skyline from atop this historic, 19th century transmission tower.
- Visit Our Lady of Victory Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses the wooden statue of Infant Jesus of Prague, revered by millions of Christians around the world.
Prague features an integrated and highly efficient public transportation network including buses, trams, and subway (underground) trains. Thankfully, the city centre is small, so walking and cycling to the city’s most popular attractions represent affordable and popular transit options. Malá Strana’s most conveniently located metro train stop is the Malostranská Station on the A line. Twenty-four tramlines crisscross the city, and one, nicknamed “the tourist tram” by foreign visitors, connects Malá Strana on its way to the nearby hilltop castle.
