Jewish Museum hotels
The Jewish Museum in Prague is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Jewish heritage and artefacts. The museum was originally founded in 1906 by Dr. Hugo Lieben and Dr. Augustin Stein, a pair of Jewish historians who aimed to preserve artefacts from synagogues that were destroyed in the 20th century. The Jewish Museum has a fascinating history, as it was once controlled by both the Nazis and then the Communists before flourishing after the Czech Republic was liberated. The museum houses a rich collection of notable artefacts and works of art that tell the tumultuous history of Jews in central Europe.
- Visit the Spanish Synagogue at the Jewish Museum and catch a performance of one of the many jazz ensembles from around Prague that regularly perform there.
- See one of the most impressive collections of rare prints and manuscripts from Jewish writers and artists at the Rare Print Collection of the Jewish Museum.
- Get a sobering reminder of the brutality visited upon Prague Jews at the Shoah History Archive, a collection of photographs and artefacts that aim to educate about the Holocaust.
The Jewish Museum is spread over six locations in central Prague that are all near to one another and easy to reach on foot or using public transportation. You can buy a single ticket that allows you access to all parts of the museum or simply visit individual portions one at a time. Prague has great public transportation and the Jewish Museum is very near the Staromestska station, which is a major hub for both the metro and tram. This is a very pedestrian-friendly city, so one of the best ways to explore the narrow, winding streets is on foot.
