The Clementinum complex of historic buildings signifies a long-standing history of civilization and culture. Tour the buildings of the Clementinum to discover historic tales of education, religion, war, and Prague history. Once a monastery, a Jesuit university, and an observatory, the Clementinum is now the Czech Republic’s National Library. The complex is a splendid 20,000 square metres of Baroque architecture. Once inside, visitors may view the unique globes, time-keeping devices, and the 5 million books that are housed within the complex. The ceiling of the library hall also features artwork by Jan Hiebl.
- Attend one of the daily classical or jazz concerts that take place in the Mirror Chapel, featuring two Baroque organs and inwrought, mirrored architecture.
- View Prague from atop the Clementinum's 68-metre Astronomical Tower to experience great views of the Charles Bridge and the famous Staromestske Square.
- Explore the Baroque Library Hall, decorated with artwork by Jan Hiebl, and houses books dating back to the Jesuit residence of Prague, as well as a historic collection of theological books.
The Clementinum complex is located in the centre of Prague, with the main entrance facing the Mariánské Square between Karlova and Křížovnická Streets. Visitors may get there quickly via the Metro A on the green line, and exit at the Staromestska stop. Hop on a tram or bus for above ground travel around the city, with stops near the Clementinum. If you choose to rent a car, visitors may park at the nearby Parking Rudolfinum, Alsovo Nabrezi 12. The buildings are open Monday through Friday from 2:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
