Church of St. Nicholas hotels
Church of St. Nicholas
Head to the Old Town section of Prague to experience the architectural marvel that is the Church of St. Nicholas. Hard to miss with its bold white exterior in Baroque style, this eighteenth century church amazes visitors with ornately decorated stucco interiors, mesmerizing murals, and masterfully crafted statues. Sitting amid all this visual beauty, it can be difficult to remember the rest of the history of the sacred building. Through the times when religious freedom ended and the Church of St. Nicholas was shut down and its time as a warehouse and even a garrison, the integrity of the building stayed true to be enjoyed by all today.
- Attend a unique concert in Prague, viewing symphonies in the same room that Mozart himself performed on the organ that still remains in the Church of St. Nicholas.
- Pause under the breathtaking frescoes that decorate the ceilings of the Church of St. Nicholas like the Celebration of the Holy Trinity in the main dome and the St. Cecilia over the organ.
- Climb the tower to view Prague from above, spanning the bright orange clay rooftops of Old Town.
The Church of St. Nicholas is open every day for viewing, meditation, church services, and special events, though hours vary depending on the day and season. To get there, head toward Old Town Square using a hired car or one of Prague’s available modes of public transportation. Take the metro to the Staromĕstská stop on Line A to get near the church. The Church of St. Nicholas is also within walking distance of several parks surrounding old town, the Vltava river, and is close to Prague Castle. The Prague Airport is about 13 kilometres away to the northwest.
