No much to say

Staff is not the best value of this hotel. A kind of red tape attitude is present in all of them and sometime you have to point feet to be heard. Location is quite good at a short walk to the big square and subway, shops etc.

Good trip and decent stay

The location of the hotel is great and the staff were friendlier compared to my last stay. The rooms were still warmer but cant complain as was winter in shanghai. The beds are too hard and not too comfortable as can feel the springs. Close to metro and taxis easily available.

LOCATION: Fantastic! 5 minutes walk from East Nanjing St subway exit 6. This stop is on line 2, which goes from Hongqiao railway station to Pudong International Airport. Not too hard to find, but the sign outside is rather inconspicuous. (Cross the big street towards the fresh steamed bun place. Turn right and walk 2 mins until the traffic lights, turn left. Walk to the next set of traffic lights and cross them. It's right there on the corner!). Within easy walking distance of the main shopping street, and not too far from the actual Bund riverside walk. NB: Beware of anyone speaking English and asking you to check out their shops. ROOM: I was lucky to have a room with a decent view (despite the smog ruining it a bit). Asked for a Queen but they only had a twin. It was however, very comfortable. Just thought it would be cleaner being a 4 star hotel. It is in need of a refurbishment. Carpets looked completely grimy. STAFF: Front staff member spoke good English and was helpful, but check-out was a bit slow so be careful if you are in a hurry. Doormen are very kind and there was a bell-boy to help with luggage.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

On the walk from Nanjing Road East metro station exit 6 to the hotel, there is a little restaurant on your left with a green sign. It was always full of locals, and I stopped by for lunch. The food was cheap and tasty. Highly recommend. Later told by a local that it is Western Chinese food. It is also certified halal for any Muslim visitors.

city tour

The only positive point about the hotel is the location of it. The rooms are dirty, the floor's condition is lamentable, the cleaning is superficial. The staff is impolite. The wifi is slow and only available in the lounge. Altogether there are only three chairs in this place, to use the internet. If you try to sit in the bar to use the wifi, the waiter sends you away rudely from there, unless you order something, although the bar is absolutly empty. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Shanghai Trip

Previous hotel tenants particular was not erased on the system on my son's room. It bears another person name on the TV screen. Thought it would not be any problem. Only to find out my son's room was billed for a continental breakfast with another entirely different name. However, we were not charged. But, it shou,d not have happened.

a bit old but excellent value for money

Location is fantastic. Near to the main area. room was comfy. we booked superior twin and superior double both river view. then we found the twin bed room is more spacious. Staff were nice. I think in China, when you are friendly, they become friendly. I am very happy to stay there again.

Improvements

We are pleased that the hotel has employed staff that can communicate in English. The food and the service at breakfast time was not satisfactory and should seriously be looked at. There was virtually no service with tables left untidy after patrons have left.

Good stopover hotel

Enjoyed the décor and old style. Stayed 2 nights as prelude to ocean cruise. Had a room with a good view to the Bund and across Huangpu river. Room services and cleanliness were okay. Issues were lack of included internet and costly, limited food in hotel. Had to go to lobby to get free wifi. Hotel café had little on menu and was expensive. When having breakfast hostess bought us a second cup of tea which turned out was not a topup so costly. Didn't eat out as unwell and raining. Wasn't much nearby anyway. As other reviews say, surrounds don't offer much but is close to train. Would stay again for same purpose, but not for a holiday stay.
