Kelowna enjoys four distinct seasons that feature hot summers and cold winters. The summer highs can exceed 35°C (95°F) in the daytime, but evenings can be significantly cooler due to the dry mountain air. While summer is mostly dry, June gets most of the annual rain with about 4 cm (1.6 in) average accumulation. During the drier months, there is a higher risk of forest fires, which can spread rapidly.Kelowna sees plenty of snow in December and January, with almost 4-5 cm (1.6-2 in) falling per month, making the destination a wonderful winter wonderland. You can fly into KelownaAirport from most major Canadian cities as well as several western US cities. If you are driving, you take Highway 97, which runs right through Kelowna. Highways 1 and 3 connect to Highway 97 from the north and south, respectively, and Highway 33 is an alternate access point for either direction. If you are coming from the west, you will also use Highway 3 and use Highway 97C to get to town. You can also take a Greyhound bus to Kelowna from Vancouver and Calgary. Trains only run as far as the city of Kamloops, which is a 90-minute drive to Kelowna. Once in town, you can use the city's transit system or rent a bike or car to get around.
