Wat Langka hotels
Cambodia is a country known for its amazing temples, and Wat Langka in Phnom Penh is one of the most unique ones, as this Buddhist temple played a major role in the recent history of the country. During the bloody reign of the Khmer Rouge, nearly every Buddhist temple in Phnom Penh was destroyed by order of the brutal dictator Pol Pot. Wat Langka managed to avert this fate, as it was used as a weapons storehouse for the Khmer Rouge. Today, this 15th century temple stands as a symbol of the spirit and endurance of the Cambodian people.
- Take a meditation class from one of the Buddhist monks at Wat Langka and you will learn how to tap into your psyche, or at least get a welcome break from the bustle of Phnom Penh.
- Grab some bai sach chrouk and sweet iced coffee—a common snack in Phnom Penh—from one of the street vendors on the perimeter of Wat Langka.
- Explore the interior of the Wat Langka complex and you will find many interesting statues and memorials that pay tribute to those lost to the Khmer Rouge.
Phnom Penh can be a challenging city in which to get around, as the roads are not always up to Western standards and public transportation is limited. This is why the best way to get to Wat Langka is simply to hire a taxi and go directly there. Those that want to spend the day taking a cultural tour of Phnom Penh should just hire a driver for the day. It is not only inexpensive, but will give you a local perspective on the sights of the city and allow you to contribute to the economy at the same time.
