Sisowath Quay hotels
The hugely popular three kilometre stretch of promenade in Phnom Penh, located at the intersection of the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers, is a bustling getaway for both locals and tourists alike. Sisowath Quay is lined with palm trees and filled with bars, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and top quality hotels, all of which gives the area unique and almost carnival-like atmosphere that would be hard to replicate anywhere else. There are also wonderful landmarks along the boulevard including the Wat Oulanom Temple, with the Royal Palace on its western side.
- One of biggest tourist attractions in Phnom Penh is the National Museum of Cambodia just off Sisowath Quay, with centuries of history plus an absolutely gorgeous central courtyard garden and terrace.
- Take one of the most beautiful walks anywhere in Phnom Penh along the Sisowath Quay riverside promenade, especially striking at sunset when the whole place is a real picture.
- Sit outside on the terracing of the Pink Elephant Pub and Restaurant, where the food is excellent, the atmosphere is superb, and, best of all, the prices are very kind on the pocket.
The Phnom Penh International Airport is the largest in the country, and is approximately 10 kilometres from Sisowath Quay. Being such a short distance, a ride in a tuk-tuk would be a very pleasant experience and gives visitors a feel for the Cambodian way of life. Taxis are widely available, but fares need to be agreed in advance. Other transportation options within the city include the cycle rickshaw, motorcycle taxi, and bicycles. Buses, however, are few and far between. Traffic, like in many Asian countries, is often chaotic, so hiring a motorcycle is best left to the brave.
