General Information

With a reputation as a safe, newly prosperous and vibrant city, Natal may well become the next great metropolis in Brazil. It certainly demonstrates all the telltale signs. Already home to over 800,000 people, the city also lures more than 2 million tourists every year. Much of Natal's appeal has to do with geography, a fact evident in one of the city's nicknames: “Corner of the Continent”.

The fact that Natal is on the Atlantic Ocean coast, with a beautiful tropical climate to boot, has a lot to do with the city's appeal of course. Proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Fernando de Noronha archipelago, with islands that offer superb marine biodiversity and tranquil, postcard-perfect beach resorts, help put Natal on the map as well. Points of interest in the city include the Museum of Popular Culture, Museum of Sacred Art, Natal Aquarium and the Forte dos Reis Magos. Carnatal is the most famous annual festival in the city.
