Namur General Information

Above and beyond Brussels, Belgium has abundant charm. While the likes of Antwerp, Brugge and Ghent tantalize innumerable visitors to the country, it is incumbent upon those with ample holiday time to get out further and explore. Outside the worthwhile cosmopolitan capital and fashionable ancillary destinations, Belgium, after all, offers us towns like Namur.

Though Liège is the foremost urban hub of Wallonia, with a metro population in excess of 750,000, the capital of the predominantly French region is indeed Namur. A beautiful river city at the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre, the historic settlement of 110,000 people is a busy commercial and transport node between Brussels, Luxembourg, Lille and Liège. For tourists however, Namur is a notable target because of a pre-eminent ensemble of museums, heritage landmarks, monuments, folk and cultural festivals. Vital points of interest to discover in Namur include the UNESCO World Heritage belfry, Saint Aubin’s Cathedral, the Citadel, Floreffe Abbey, and remarkable Annevoie Castle. Major events to consider include the annual Christmas Markets, Namur Festival of Francophone Films and Namur Music Festival.

Overnight stay on return from holiday
Hotel was fine for overnight stay a little far out for sightseeing staff very friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi was free so can't really complain but the signal was weak and several times disconnected.
