Museum des Sciences Naturelles
Brussels’ Museum des Sciences Naturelles features all the trademarks of a compelling natural science museum, such as glistening gem and insect collections, life-sized taxidermy beasties, and interactive displays. The facility also features something extra-special: Europe’s largest collection of dinosaur skeletons, which hang from the ceiling and saunter about the halls in dramatic recreations of their former glory. Budding scientists of all ages will have their interest in nature rekindled here, and can easily spend a full day exploring the many fascinating exhibits hiding throughout this beautiful museum. Entry is € 7 for adults and € 4.50 for children.
- Explore the Museum Des Sciences Naturelles’ jaw-dropping collection of skeletons, which includes an entire herd of iguanadon that were discovered in caves just outside of Brussels 130 years ago.
- During Belgian school holidays, take your kids to the Paleo Lab, where they’ll get the chance to play with fossils, create fossil-themed crafts, and learn about the intricacies of palaeontology.
- Visit the huge Animal Kingdom exhibit whilst in Brussels, whose highlights include whale skeletons, a North Pole-South Pole Exhibit, an insect vivarium, and a mammal room that lets you rub noses with a stuffed rhinoceros and porcupine.
Brussels’ Museum Des Sciences Naturelles' address is Rue Vautier 29, and it’s located within walking—not to mention cycling—distance from many other attractions. Look out for the black iguanodon statue situated in front of the museum. To get here via the metro, take line 2 or 6 to Trone station, walk up Luxembourg Street until you get to the European Parliament building, and turn left. You can also take Buses 34 or 80, which will both drop you off outside the museum. Tickets cost € 2.50 from the driver, or € 2 pre-purchased.
