Manneken Pis hotels
Manneken Pis, translated as Little Man Pee in English, is a small bronze statue of a small cherubic boy taking a leak into the basin of a fountain in Brussels. Created by Belgian sculptor Hieronimus Duquesnoy in 1619, the statue stands just 61 cm tall and was originally a drinking fountain. There are several different stories about who the statue actually represents: in one story a regal toddler ends up urinating on enemy troops; in another story a youngster pees on a burning fuse saving his city from enemy soldiers. The statue on display is a copy, since it has been stolen a number of times.
- Take a photo of the Manneken Pis, which is a popular Brussels attraction with tourists and locals.
- The Brussels City Museum (also known as Maison du Roi or Broodhuis) to see the original statue and the 800 costumes worn by the bronze sculpture. Yes, he has quite a wardrobe and changes attire several times a week!
- Visit the counterpart of Manneken Pis, Jeanneke Pis, who has only been in residence since 1987, and learn about her story.
Manneken Pis is just a short walk from the Brussels Town Hall and located at the intersection of Rue de l'Étuve (Stoofstraat) and Rue du Chêne (Eikstraat). Jeanneke Pis can be found just off Impasse de la Fidélité, a cul-de-sac that leads from Rue des Bouchers, which is a popular restaurant area. It is easy to navigate Brussels on foot, and there are bicycle rental locations throughout the city. The metro is convenient to use to get around the city and is connected to the train stations.
