A gem. Beautiful old-world charm in the heart of Bruges - with delightful staff

A gem! Beautifully situated on the canal in a quiet street; a romantic haven in the very heart of Bruges. But don't expect squeaky plastic furniture, cold style - this place is quite opulent. This hotel was great - charming, picturesque, full of interest (forget the minimalist clinics...), with plush décor and comfort. And beautiful to see colour! How reviving! Attractive objets d'art enhance its personality. Whilst the edges of the décor may well be just a tiny bit faded and creaky, it didn't matter: the place was as comfortable as staying with good friends. The absolute opposite of the clinical, minimalist style inflicted on travels everywhere as a 'fashion'. Thankfully there was no black or grey anywhere too! (PS. if you like the clinical, clinic-style hotel that is devoid of personality and absolutely up-to-date, this isn't the hotel for you.) Its old-world charm was matched by the lovely staff - all of whom were an absolute delight - thank you! - genuinely friendly, kind and charming. Couldn't have felt more welcomed. PS II: by 'old-world' don't read boring, dusty etc. The restaurant wasn't open when I stayed with my mother - but the breakfast was quite splendid.A gourmet selection, beautifully presented and done with a quiet elegance missing in so many places. My only regret ? We only had one night to enjoy it all... A real gem. Loved it. Can't wait to return...
