Wieden is the fourth district in the city of Vienna. The fourth district was initially merged with Margarethen, but later it was realised that Wieden attracted much attention from visitors — especially students and artists who found it more interesting and fashionable. The original district was consequently divided into two and Margarethen became the fifth district. The fourth district is comprised of large residential areas with historic buildings and a lot of focus is placed on the area around Karlsplatz, where several attractions are found. The fourth district also boasts a vibrant and exciting nightlife centred around quaint restaurants and bars.
- Visit the City History Museum, which houses a detailed collection of maps, plans, and artefacts highlighting Vienna’s development from prehistoric times.
- Experience the Naschmarkt, a large, fresh food market in Wieden, situated along Wienzeile road, where you will find fruits and vegetables at very low prices.
- See Karskirsche Church, situated near Karlsplatz, and a stunning, traditional building constructed in 1713. Along with its huge significance to Vienna, it sits right next to Wien museum, making it a perfect stop for history lovers.
