The section of Vienna known as Landstrasse is made up of several old neighbourhoods that are now grouped together. It is also the site of one of the most important research areas in Austria and the site of old castles and the infamous fake graves of Mozart. Landstrasse is a tourist destination of old but it still has much to offer the modern tourist, because the neighbourhood has grown over the years and improved with age. This is a different kind of area from other Vienna neighbourhoods and definitely worth visiting.
- Visit the St. Marxer Cemetery, a centuries' old cemetery in Vienna that contains the actual grave of Mozart and the man who invented the sewing machine.
- Have a look at the Rabenhof, a socialist apartment house, which contains Landstrasse's most subversive theatre, the Rabenhoftheater.
- Wander through the most unusual art museum in Vienna, the Museum of Art Fakes, which includes exhibits by the famous forger Han van Meegeren and art restorer Tom Keating.
Like many old European cities, Vienna is a mass of one-way streets and no parking. Hire a car only if you are going out of the city. Instead, try biking around the city, which is cleaner, faster, and easier. There are buses that go all day and all night. Trams run from 6am to midnight. Lines 1 and 2 will take you to Landstrasse. The subway is called the U-bahn and for convenience, passengers can buy a ticket that is good for all forms of public transportation. Lastly, you can take a taxi.
