Ernst Happel Stadium
The Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria is where Fernando Torres gave the victory to Spain in UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament and where Champions League and European Cup winners have been determined. First opened to the public on 11 June 1931 and originally known as Prater Stadion, the omni-sports stadium was renamed in 1992 to honour Ernst Happel, the famous Austrian football player and manager who passed away the same year. The historic venue, and Austria’s largest stadium, is not just known for sports, but it regularly hosts musical concerts and circuses.
- Watch an exciting football match between major European teams or support the local Vienna teams in the tiered seating of the open-air stadium along with the huge crowds of cheering fans.
- Enjoy non-sporting events at the Ernst Happel Stadium with the family, including Cirque du Soleil shows, Disney musicals, and major musical acts that pass through Vienna, such as Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen.
- Head to the nearby Stadion Center shopping mall for shopping and dining, or to the green public space of the Prater Park to soak up the sun.
Ernst Happel Stadium is in Leopoldstadt, roughly 3.5 kilometres east of the city centre of Vienna. It is located in the 2nd district and can be reached by line 2 of the metro, getting off at Stadion Station. Line 2 passes through the western and northern edge of the city centre.
