Danube Tower hotels
The highest tower in Austria, the Danube Tower provides a panoramic view of Vienna in both good and bad weather. Opened in 1964 at the Viennese International Horticultural Show, the tower is a main feature of the skyline. People ride up the high-speed elevators to see the view, to eat at its two restaurants, and if very brave, to bungee jump from the platform. If you're in very good shape and visiting during the Donautrurm run, you can also walk up to the viewing platform using the 779-step stairway.
- For the brave at heart, try out the experience of jumping off the tower and bouncing back up; bungee jumping at the tower is scheduled several times a year, and you get a certificate after your jump.
- Have dinner at the revolving restaurant at the top of the Danube Tower – you can look over all of Vienna as you enjoy traditional cuisine.
- Ride the high-speed elevators to the glassed-in viewing platform for a panoramic view of Vienna; on fair weather days, there is also an outside observation deck.
You'll find the Danube Tower on the North Bank of the river. It's the tallest tower in Austria, and easily seen in the Vienna Skyline. It's located just off the Donsuffer Autobahn, with lots of parking available for both cars and tour buses. If you are travelling by public transportation, you can get to the tower on the U1 subway line. Take the subway to the VIC/Kaisermühlen station. From there, catch the 20B bus directly to the Danube Tower. Once there, both the tower elevators and the restaurants are wheelchair accessible, making this a good destination for most visitors.
