Over night stay after concert.

My wife and I had booked to see Soweto Gospel Choir at the Perth Concert Hall which is adjacent to Duxton Hotel. Rather than driving home after the concert we had booked an overnight stay at the Duxton. We enjoyed the stay so much that we extended our stay by an additional night. The staff were excellent they all gave the impression that they enjoyed their work. Valet parking was most convenient although somewhat pricey. In house restaurant with its fine décor was excellent for breakfast; choice of food was extensive and of excellent quality and value for money. Room service dinner was also very good with pricing similar to the in house restaurant. The location of the hotel in the CBD meant that many attraction were within walking distance. Public transport busses also passed the front door thereby providing access to other attractions.

Unfortunately it were the details that made the Duxton...

The general staff are friendly and polite in person but the behind the scenes service is lacking. Staying in a club suite I had high expectations which unfortunately not met. As soon as I returned to my room after housekeeping had been, I had to ring to have the toiletries replaced as the semi-used ones had been thrown out and not replaced and the teas hadn't been restocked (there were only two of each and I go through more tea than I do water!). This was just one of many of the housekeeping details that had been overlooked, such as putting new bin liners in after the previous one had been removed, replacing dirty glasses and saucers and simply putting the cushions back on the made bed. The very few light fixtures were also covered in thick layers of dust and the carpets are starting to look worn. Room service kindly made a special order pizza for us, however I was still charged roughly $30, even after mentioning it to staff, for a pizza that I could only eat the toppings off of as the base had completely stuck itself to the cardboard box. This is also the first "5 star" hotel that I have been to that served room service with paper napkins rather than linen, and a stained plastic closh rather than stainless steel. It is also the first "5 star" hotel where I have been refused the included buffet breakfast to be room service instead, which was particularly disappointing this time as I had come down with a bit of a cold and would prefered to have it in my room rather than spread the cold to the other guests. The club lounge was lovely with a wonderful view, and the food was on par and sometimes even better than what I've had at other hotels. Overall it was a nice enough stay, and the staff were prompt when I requested a room change due noise from the opposite room. However with the tired, dated rooms and having to constantly ask for details to be attended to that are usually already taken care of at other (cheaper) 5 star hotels, I unfortunately will not be returning to the Duxton.

Comfortable and relaxing

We had a very nice weekend at the Duxton. The room was very comfortable, clean, and quiet. The staff were extremely attentive and polite. Would stay there again. Only small issue which may have been because they were busy was queuing up for breakfast seating.

dont have room service

Stayed there 13 years ago and little has changed. It looks a bit tired decor wise, but clean and quite luxurious as well as ideaaly situated. However the room service was the of the worst quality. We had to wait over an hour, then I tried to cancel it andit still came. The food was stone cold and the food quality appalling I have ever had/seen anywhere in the world! When I complained the clerk said "they were very busy" and as I said that doesnt cut it as they are a 5 star hotel (or claim to be). To be fair I wasn't charged for the food after I complained

Great location

We used the Duxton as our base for a 9 day break in Perth. We took a number of day tours and the hotel is close enough to Barrack St Jetty (tourist hub) to walk there and avoid those tedious hotel 'pick-up' buses. Plenty of cafes and restaurants are also within walking distance. The city art gallery and museum complex is very good and the free inner city buses are a nice touch. We had a very comfortable room with a good outlook to the river. The bathroom was a little dated -juggling taps to get the right shower temperature and force is not great when you are used to electronic temperature control. We had breakfast included and generally it was very good. I really like scrambled eggs but sadly we were presented with over-stirred egg pulp. Still there were plenty of other choices.

Fantastic getaway

My partner and I stayed three nights. The Duxton was within close proximity to everything, cleanest hotel I've ever stayed (and I've travelled a lot), great customer service and the room service was beautiful. We had a fantastic time and would certainly recommend the hotel to others.

Nice hotel

I stay in Perth quite often. The Duxton is one of the nicest I have stayed at. Location is good with easy acess to the City, there is also a nice walking/cycling path following the river close by. Only thing to note was the exceptionally thin walls, alarm clocks, discussions etc are clearly audible throughout the night.
