Port Fairy hotels
What travelers to Port Fairy are saying
19th century cottages, waters so clear that they would make a bottle of Evian green with envy, fine Port Fairy hotels, exciting festivals, beaches with sparkling sands, and much, much more awaits visitors to Port Fairy. The picturesque fishing village is located in south-western Victoria, where the lovely Moyne River ends its journey at the Southern Ocean. The area is famed for its many historic buildings. One of the most notable is the Moyne Mill, a towering, round-topped storage shed covered by a roof of bow string trusses that was once a five-storied bluestone flour mill. It is all that remains of the warehouses and wharves that once crowded the Moyne River waterfront. Other historic structures include the charming Casino Memorial on King George Square, the fascinating lighthouse on Griffiths Island, and the quaint Motts Cottage on 3 Sackville Street.
Port Fairy boasts a large number of natural attractions. One of the most notable is the spectacular Hopkins Falls at Wangoom, where the winding Hopkins River plunges down an escarpment as it makes its way to the sea. And, oh, the whales! The best time to see them is between June and October, when they visit the area to breed. The town is also famed for the four-day Port Fairy Folk Festival which is held every March. On offer are musical styles that range from bluegrass, rock, country, and blues to jazz.
