Fabulous !

Really adored The Albany , even before I stayed there I loved the look of the hotel online. Loved it even more when I got there. Great location , not far from the trams , close to Mcdonalds and Subway just around the corner and across from a beautiful Fawkner Park and just a short walk to South Yarra and Chapel Street. Money for value for sure. No complaints , loved it to pieces. The staff were great as well , didn't wait to long for Check - In. I can't wait to stay there again when I go back to Melbourne for another get away .

Excellent Value For Money

Gotta say this hotel with some cosmetic surgery inside would be the best Hotel ever!!!' For $80 a night with a free room upgrade, beautiful king size bed, excellent breakfast . Location was just spot on to everything that we were looking for . Just cosmetically it fails . Simple things need repairing , shower was dodgy, curtain rod kept falling down, but overall for $80 a night I was a happy chappy!!! Stayed July 2015

weekend getaway

My sister and I were attending a conference in St Kilda-the location of the albany was perfect and only a short taxi trip to the city. The room was average. When we arrived the main light in the room was broken. We spoke with reception who assured us it would be repaired the following day (we checked in late) but it was not. The carpet had sticky patches where something had been spilt and not cleaned properly and there were white smears on the black section of the curtain. The cafe for breakfast was good value and had an option for buffet breakfast for $10 if you didn't want to order off the menu.

Ideal in many ways, but avoid a front room?

The room was on the first floor on the street side. The window was closed but pre -breakfast mobile phone business dealings held on the street were very loud, and in the early hours Sunday morning conversations on the street outside were_very_ clear through the closed window

A brief stay in Melbourne

Overall the Albany provided a reasonably priced, conveniently located 4 night stay in South Yarra. Trams were a short walk away. The street felt safe and quiet. Lovely restaurants facing the Domain, also walking distance. Availability of some sheltered seating for smokers was appreciated. 1960's retro was less authentic than I had hoped for.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Hotel is a total death trap!!! I was moved rooms to a more "deluxe" one and was equally as bad! Carpets threadbare throughout the hotel and pulling up so you trip over them, tiles cracked and missing in the bathrooms, tv in all rooms get no reception, remotes to tv/aircon not working, light bulbs blown in both rooms, king beds are actually 2 SINGLE BEDS PUSHED TOGETHER! towel rail fell off the wall, shower wouldnt function in first room as spayed onto the roof due to all the washers needing replacing, pool has no chlorine or filter so it is full of mould and you cant swim in it, decking surrounding the pool is so old putting a foot wrong will lead to shattering the decking and breaking your leg!!! The staff are the absolute WORST I have EVER come across! They are all incredibly rude and none know how to do their jobs. When we had the room changed initially I put luggage in storage and went out for the day, upon my return a new receptionist was working and did not know that another room was meant to have been organised so had to wait another 30 mins after a terrible night and a long day for them to try and find somewhere to put us which was meant to be organised by lunchtime. The "restaurant" is actually them just calling a delivery order from the extremely lovely restaurant around the corner so why bother paying a surcharge on top to have to sit in the miserable hotel "dining room" that is also filthy and the staff just death-stare you down until you feel like you are actually committing a crime by staying in communal areas. The hotel is stuffy and hot and old so it has an unpleasant odor and the hotel room doors do not lock properly so your belongings are far from secure. The walls of the rooms are also so thin that you should not expect to get any sleep whatsoever. Overall, in the top 2 worst hotels I've stayed in... and I have travelled through third world countries! They have made photoshopping an artform... the hotel is NOTHING like the photos and the hotel decription is more then just a little bit untruthful... it is one total sham!

Great place to stay

I was attending the Australian Open Athletics C'ships and The Albany was nice and close to the facility. The room was comfortable and spacious, the dining area is terrific and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.
