Mother daughter trip

I was rather upset with our stay as the room next to us was smoking inside their room which came on to ours and was unbearable we told the staff and the only compensation he could offer us was a down grade on the room we had!! We were told the hotel would follow up qith an email which sadly never came. I am not one to make a big deal but he told us he fined them 3 times during the night and yet we were never consulted. He also told me he wasn't sure why the fire alarms never went off!! We spent the night coughing and spluttering this is unacceptable.

Tired, run down

I was expecting something simple but modern. What I got was simple but aged. I had a deluxe queen room (418). Both lamp shades were bent and has faulty wiring. The chair in the room was torn. My bed smelled like mint chewing gum. The room was sparsely furnished with lots of empty space. Basic a big room with a bed and a desk. I could hear the people in the next room urinating. The carpet looked old and dirty. More like a budget Ibis or Formula 1 hotel. Staff were nice. Location is lovely and convenient. Parking was easy. Reception lobby looks trendy.

Good place to stay

Stayed here rather than going home after a concert at the Palais. The staff are great, the location is good but the in room snacks are a little pricey and the air con could only be adjusted over a 3 degree range of 20 to 23C which was a little disappointing as it was quite cold on the night after walking back from the Palais Theatre.

weekend trip

The hotel room was a good size and well appointed. There were 4 windows, however the views were the of rear sides of buildings full of rubbish. The aircon unit appeared old and was very dirty. The throw on the bottom of the bed was folded in half and when I opened it to use as a blanket, it very obviously had food spilled on it. There was a lovely large print above the desk and upon looking closer, this also had food (?) on it. I took some items that needed to be refrigerated but the fridge door didn't close properly, so they did not stay cold.

OK not exceptional

My room was large compared to other hotel stays that I have had. The lift is very small, claustrophobic and slow. No room service so when I arrived at 9pm it was only the mini bar that I could get sustenance from. Although there are a lot of restaurants very nearby the thought of travelling in the lift again put me off going out again. Water pressure in the shower was very very low. I am glad I didn't have to wash my hair because I don't think I would have been able to get the shampoo out. Café downstairs for breakfast was OK, coffee OK but Melbourne is known for great coffee so this was only OK

Great staff and location

Foyer was a bit off putting, but check-in staff couldn't be more helpful. We had a Sweet Urban room on 2nd floor which was very roomy, excellent bathroom incl spa - and quiet in a noisy neighbourhood. Car parking for $18 was very fair, as it is almost impossible otherwise. Would stay again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel has excellent bistro-style dining facilities, but the location is also awash with restaurants of all types and prices. Can recommend Il Fornaio just around the corner. Noisy, but great food and service.

Journey of popularity

A journey that was filled with such endless popularity was disappointed by the sty at this hotel. The level of cleanliness especially when the bedside lamps were filled with dust the bed linen wasn't that flash. There was a gentleman at the desk whose attitude was so appalling his customer service was appalling. I really was disappointed the urban really let me down

Large, clean rooms

I recently stayed at the hotel for work. I was impressed by the large room which included bathrobe and slippers (always a nice touch!). The hotel was located a short walk to the beach and there were several great choices for dining in the vicinity
