ordinary visit

I chose Amora Riverwalk for its location and the availability of parking, full marks for both of those. I acknowledge that it is a budget hotel (FOUR Stars???? I don't think so) BUT it was like walking into a time warp. dismal decor, everything dark and gloomy and well worn. Very 70s. throughout except for the large in room television which would have been good had there been a good choice of channels. The only foxtel I could find were sports channels. Didn't matter for me but anyone travelling on a budget needs to be aware of that. If television is important to you be aware you are stuck with Melbourne free to air unless you want to pay extra. There was no WiFi, nor was there a charge station for an iPad or iPhone. Anything above basic carried an extra charge. Bed was comfortable, linen and towels immaculate. Bathroom basin could have done with a good clean. Breakfast dining room service poor. Room service staff very very good. All in all this hotel is a bit like the curate's egg. Good in parts!

Noisy and Uncomfortable

We had a very poor experience at this hotel. The bed was EXTREMELY uncomfortable - was like sleeping on a concrete slab. May have actually got a better nights' sleep if we slept on the floor. In addition, a wedding reception was held on one of the nights and was EXTREMELY LOUD in our room on the second floor. It was actually at least 20x louder in our room, than it was in the dining room which was right next door to the reception, which shows that the soundproofing is not adequate in the hotel rooms. We were only told when checking in that a reception was being held, but I feel we should have been told how very loud it would be before checking in so we could have chosen another hotel instead. Would not stay here again.

Pleasant overnight stay

My wife and I booked into the Amora Riverwalk as it was close to a wedding we attended in Richmond. Our one night stay was very comfortable. Our room /bathroom was well maintained, furnished and spotlessly clean. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. The buffet breakfast next morning was also very good but could have included poached or fried eggs as only scrambled eggs were offered. All hotel staff we met looked after us as if we were the only guests in the hotel. In all a very good hotel just a few kilometres from the Melbourne CBD but easily accessible by private car, tram or taxi. Highly recommended

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you wish to dine away from the hotel, there is a very good restaurant and a hotel which serves meals directly across Bridge Road from the hotel entrance.

Melbourne's best hotel

We have stayed in a number of hotels in Melbourne but this is hands down the BEST. If you are not familiar with Melbourne and think you need to book at hotel CBD, then consider this, even though it's not in the city it is very central, a short tram ride. Shopping in bridge road is amazing, pubs with fantastic food, clubs too. Hotel is beautifully clean, modern, spacious and offers a beautiful walk along the yarra river.. Great value for money. In house breakfast is way too expensive, just stel onto the street and choose from the enormous choice if wonderful quirky and top class cafés/ pubs.

Great for a quiet city break

We chose this hotel based on other reviews for a weekend break to attend a couple of functions in the city at the beginning of December. It is located in a great position to get up and walk beside the river in the morning and enjoy the peace and quiet and conveniently has a tram stop right outside the front of hotel to get you into the city in about 20 minutes. Just to point out getting back to hotel via taxi when trams have stopped operating at this time of year can be difficult, so be prepared to wait or pre book something. On checking in the front desk clerk was polite and gave us information on what tram to take to get to where we needed to be. On checking out we had not realised breakfast was included in our rate and so the receptionist kindly waivered our parking fees for the stay, which we thought was very courteous. We would not hesitate to recommend to others, as long as you don't want the city on your doorstep this is a great place to relax and unwind. Thank you Amora.

Outstanding in all areas.

The Amora is without doubt the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are polite, efficient and friendly without being intrusive. Checking in and out were both effortless, despite a last minute decision to check out much later. Extras like courtesy umbrellas and being able to smoke on the balcony were very welcome. My mum has a very bad back and said the beds were the best she'd ever slept on. There's a tram line right outside the door, making travel easy. Being right on the Yarra River Trail made for pleasant long walks. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a wide variety to suit every taste. My only complaint, if I want to be exceedingly picky, is that I'm not a huge fan of the 'rainshower' style of shower head as the pressure isn't good and having only half a glass shower screen meant the floor got quite wet. But honestly, this is such an inconsequential issue that I only included it lest someone think I'm being too free with praise. I will definately stay here again.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you're staying in Melbourne for a sporting event, the number 48 tram stops right next to the MCG and it's only a five minute walk from there to either the Rod Laver Arena or Hisense Arena. The same tram will take you all the way to Flinders Street Station and Southern Cross Station.
