Royal Arcade hotels
The Royal Arcade is a historic shopping arcade situated in the central business district of Melbourne, Australia. Originally designed by architect Charles Webb, the arcade was completed in 1869, making it one of the oldest shopping centres in the country. Today the arcade is known for its high glass roof and windowed stores, which allow it to be filled with natural light. In addition to its many upscale fashion boutiques, the Royal Arcade also boasts an eclectic collection of specialty stores and eateries that make it one of the most popular shopping destinations in Melbourne.
- Take Melbourne’s Golden Mile Heritage Walk and see many of the important Victorian-era structures in the city, including the Royal Arcade.
- Go to the south end of the Royal Arcade to admire the statues of the mythical figures Gog and Magog, as well as the beautiful clock whose chimes alert shoppers to the changing hour.
- Shop on Little Collins Street that is connected to the Royal Arcade where you will find one of the most interesting collections of boutique stores and bars in Melbourne.
The Royal Arcade is located in the central business district of Melbourne, so it is easy to reach using the city’s efficient public transportation system; in particular, visitors will enjoy the city’s tram network, whose routes service several stops along Bourke and Elizabeth streets, both of which are within walking distance of the Royal Arcade. You might also hop on Melbourne’s train, stopping at the Flinders Street station, which is only two blocks away from the arcade. There is a lot to see and explore in this area, so the best way to enjoy the historic buildings is on foot.
