Giant Sky Wheel hotels
Giant Sky Wheel
The Giant Sky Wheel is the largest Ferris wheel of the Southern Hemisphere, evoking nostalgia of carnival past and childhood adventure. This massive 216-passenger loop is currently situated at the Waterfront City cradled within the Melbourne Docklands. This modern structure 120 meters (394 feet) tall was officially opened in December 2008, drawing visitors near and far to its spectacular vantage point at the top. Since its reconstruction in January 2011, onlookers can enjoy the coastal view from every carriage on the Giant Sky Wheel, or observe the light pattern displays, numbering almost to twenty-five varieties.
- Being the oldest representation of carnival amusement, one must visit the Giant Sky Wheel at least once while in Melbourne, whether young or young at heart, every age can fancy a ride in the arms of light beams and warm summer air.
- The wheel is popular for being the largest and most spectacular travelling Ferris in Melbourne, offering commanding views on rides that take approximately 7-10 minutes.
- The structure also offers incredible beauty, from the sense of exhilaration created by natural light during the day and the hypnotic colourful patterns of racing lights, stars and crystals.
Drivers of private vehicles can drive south of Melbourne using the West Gate freeway; then visitors should take a right turn into Docklands Highway. Drive a short distance to Lorimer Street and follow it along the stretch to Point Park. Moving straight along the edge of the Yarra River, visitors can see the Giant Sky Wheel at Waterfront City. Taxis are of course available from the downtown district of Melbourne, though may be more costly than public transit. If visitors prefer, they can utilize the shuttles and buses whose routes connect the Tullamarine Airport with popular destinations.
