Chinatown Melbourne hotels
Chinatown in Melbourne has some real historic character on show with its low-rise brick buildings, indeed the area dates back to the gold rush days of the mid 1850's. Of all the Chinese settlements in cities around the western world, Melbourne's is the longest continuous stretch. Chinatown extends along Little Bourke Street with all the adjoining alleys linking to Lonsdale Street, Swanston Street and Spring Street. Festivals are a regular occurrence and a major highlight for any visitor. Five arches announce the entrance into this vibrant district that have been restored to their former glory in recent years.
- Sample the diversity of Asian cuisine in the heart of Chinatown in Melbourne with stunning food from around the world.
- Take a look around the Village Centre at some of the best fashion boutiques in the neighbourhood and grab yourself a bargain.
- Try out some of the ancient healing techniques and herbal remedies that are found in Chinatown which serve the community so well.
Melbourne is served by its own International Airport and is about 23 kilometres from the centre of the town. Buses are fairly frequent, and the hop-on-hop-off service actually has a designated stop at Chinatown. Tourist shuttles also set down outside the entrance to Chinatown and the city's Circle Tram has a stop close to the main areas of the Chinese neighbourhood. Taxis can be found throughout the city and their rates are quite reasonable. However, due to the compact nature of the city most places can easily be explored on foot.
